— 01 · The Situation —

Three locations. Three different logos. Three different menus. One brand that couldn't be franchised.

Founded in 2018 by ice-cream entrepreneur Ralf Sander, Gimme Gelato is Berlin's most ambitious artisan gelato brand. A glass ice cream manufactory in Charlottenburg where guests watch pastisseurs produce gelato, popsicles, waffles, and cookies entirely in-house. Sustainable. Vegan-friendly. A cult following.

But as the brand grew from one location to three, it had grown without a system. The Charlottenburg flagship, the East Side Mall location, and the third Berlin site each had their own logo variant, menu design, colour treatment, and social aesthetic. Nothing wrong individually — nothing connected.

Franchise enquiries were coming in — and being turned away every time. Not because the brand wasn't good enough, but because the brand wasn't documented enough. The product could scale. The system couldn't.

— 02 · The Approach —

Extract what already existed. Codify it. Make it teachable.

Full Identity Audit

Catalogued every touchpoint across all three locations: signage, menus, packaging, uniforms, social, cups, bags, labels. Mapped every inconsistency. Identified the DNA beneath the noise.

Unified Colour & Logo System

The mint of the retro mobile vans — Gimme's most distinctive visual signal — became the system's anchor. Defined mint, warm cream, near-black, warm coral. Logo refined into primary logotype + submark + wordmark, with usage rules for every scale.

Packaging Redesign

Unified cups (5 sizes), lids, bags, popsicle wrappers, take-home boxes, catering packaging, napkins, straws, labels into one coherent visual system. Print specs for each. Approved supplier list. Every customer carrying a cup is a moving brand ambassador.

60-Page Franchise Operations Manual

Not a mood board. A franchise operations manual: brand foundation, logo system, colour & typography, signage & environment, packaging, uniforms, digital. Built so a franchisee in a new city, with no prior brand experience, can open without calling Berlin.
